The
Saskatchewan Legilative Building Rehabiliation Project, begun in 1997, was completed in
the spring of 2001.
To mark the completion of the project, a new barrier-free
entrance was officially opeend by His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales on April 26,
2001. The Prince of Wales entrance is located on the north west wing of the
building.
In phase one, construction crews installed approximately 1,800 piles under the North,
South, East and centre core areas of the building and have stabilzed the building's
shifting foundation. This was accomplished by underpinning the building's
foundation. During Phase II, work was done on enhancing the building's fire code standards
including the installation of a smoke detection and fire sprinkler system. Accessibility
standards were improved including the construction of the Prince of Wales entrance.
