During any of the following downloads, you may minimize the download window and use
another application on your system. You are restricted only from downloading more

Troubleshooting (Windows)
Below are some known QuickTime problems and their possible solutions.
Conflicting versions of the plug-in
You may unknowingly have a conflicting version of the plug-in already installed. Make sure
you have only NPQTW32.DLL (32-bit) or NPQTW16.DLL (16-bit) in your plugins
folder/directory, but not both. Re-launch your browser.
Conflicts with plug-ins from other manufacturers
Other plug-ins such as Moviestar and Viewmovie will also display QuickTime files. If such
a plug-in is already installed on your system, it will likely conflict with the QuickTime
player. Try adjusting your Helper App settings to ensure they specify QuickTime as the
viewer for .MOV files.
When I tried to use the plugin to view a movie, a dialog box appears complaining
that "SHARE" is not loaded. What do I need to do?
To make SHARE.EXE load at boot time, edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT startup file and look for the
statement "C:/DOS/SHARE.EXE" (or simply "SHARE"). Add it if it is not
there. If it is there, but there is a semicolon (";") or the word
"REM" at the beginning of the line, delete the semicolon or "REM".
Save your changes and re-start your computer.
Insufficient memory
QuickTime VR files can be quite memory-intensive. On older
systems with small amounts of RAM it may be necessary to close unneeded applications in
order for the movie to work properly.
Installation for Macintosh (2.85 mb)
You may already have the basic QuickTime player installed on your system. If so, you will
only need the plug-in and VR component.
- Download qt25.hqx to your local
drive. This is the QuickTime player software.
- If you are using Netscape 3.0, this file should decompress
automatically to a folder called "Net Install". If not, you may need StuffIt
Expander 4.0 from Aladdin Systems. Launch StuffIt Expander, select "Expand..."
from the File menu and choose mac_qtpi.hqx. StuffIt will decompress the file and create
the "Net Install" folder.
- Open the Net Install folder, open the "Install Disk
1" folder inside of it, and launch the Installer application. This will place all of
the necessary QuickTime software in the proper places on your computer. You will need to
restart your computer after running the installer.
- Download the plugin file (mac_qtpi.hqx).
- If you are using Netscape 3.0, this should should
automatically expand and unarchive to a file called "QuickTime plugin".
Otherwise, use Stuffit to expand mac_qtpi.hqx as per above.
- Place "QuickTime plugin" in the plug-ins folder
for the browser you are using.
- Restart the browser and try downloading and viewing one of
our QuickTime VR movies. If the installation was successful, a QuickTime logo and message
that the VR is loading will appear on a new page in your browser. If it does not work,
proceed to Troubleshooting for possible reasons.
Complete QuickTime Viewer and
Plugin for Macintosh
For the complete version of QuickTime
3, please select the button below and it will take you to the Apple site.
- This file is offered as a single MacBinary (.bin) or Binhex
(.hqx) formatted file. For a faster download, we recommend the MacBinary version of
QuickTime 3. If your web browser or ftp client is not configured for MacBinary, or if you
experience problems downloading using MacBinary, you can download the Binhex posting of
this software. You will receive the same software no matter which option you download.

Troubleshooting (Macintosh)
Below are some known QuickTime problems and their possible solutions.
Insufficient memory
You should have an additional 1 MB of free RAM beyond that
required by the browser you are running. For instance, if you are using Navigator 3.0,
which in recent releases came configured to use 9 MB of RAM, you will need 10 MB free to
run Navigator and the plug-in. Check the RAM requirements for your browser by
clicking on the browser's icon in the Finder and choosing "Get Info" from the
File menu. Turning off unneeded extensions and quitting other
running applications may help reduce memory requirements.
